Japanese arthouse auteur Fukada Koji reaches new artistic heights with this noir thriller based on the graphic novel by Hoshisato Mochiru. Despite being involved with two women at the same time, Tsuji feels an emptiness in his life. That all changes when he rescues Ukiyo from a railroad crossing. Though Ukiyo is an enigma who seems to bring nothing but trouble to those around her, Tsuji is beguiled by her charms and is soon caught in a dangerous predicament involving the criminal underworld. Originally produced as a ten-episode TV series, this epic romance is now being presented in a new director’s cut, in the shape of a four-hour feature film.
