Having garnered international acclaim at the Berlin Film Festival for his first two features, Valderrama and Hendi and Hormoz, Abbas Amini returns with The Slaughterhouse. Amir is an idle and unemployed ex-con who becomes involved in the cover-up of a terrible crime at the local abbatoir. His involvement comes at his father’s request, but what begins as a favour for his family spins inexorably out of control. No stranger to social critique, Amini takes aim at the economic and societal forces in modernday Iran that ruthlessly victimise ordinary people.
