Director Song Fang made a splash in the festival circuit eight years ago with her autobiographical debut Memories Look At Me, which won Best First Feature at the Locarno Film Festival. Produced by Jia Zhangke, her beautifully austere sophomore effort is again a highly personal yet universal examination of a woman’s relationship with herself and the world around her. Portrayed by So Long, My Son’s Qi Xi, the protagonist is a filmmaker constantly on the move after recently ending a relationship. As she travels alone between Beijing, Nanjing, Hong Kong and Japan, she observes and engages with her ever-changing environs while seeking an inner calm.
