Azim is an Afghan refugee who lives in Tehran, Iran with his family. He has arranged for his family, his elderly mother, and his brother Faroogh to be smuggled to Europe for a better life. However, Azim is furious when Faroogh reveals he won’t be taking their mother with them, and things get even worse when he’s told that his mother is in desperate need of a kidney transplant. Made by the Mahmoudi brothers, themselves also Afghans who relocated to Iran, this unflinching domestic drama portrays the plight of those who are forced to live in a constant state of limbo due to bureaucratic dysfunction, even after being fortunate enough to escape the danger at home.
