Yim Soon-rye’s gentlest film transplants Little Forest, Daisuke Igarashi’s manga about slow living and natural cooking, to the Korean countryside. After falling short in the city, Hye-won returns to her remote rural hometown, picks up farming and prepares mouth-watering dishes with ingredients that she grows and gathers. Over four seasons, she works the land, reconnects with childhood friends and recalls recipes from her mother who left one day without a word. Yim hits all the calming, culinary notes for a healing foodie drama while delicately exploring an adrift young woman’s inner turmoil and gradual process of reconciling with herself and her environment.
