Familiar yet fresh, Hong Sang-soo’s 28th feature film revisits the auteur’s staple themes, characters and filmmaking language with new perspective. Director Byung-soo (Kwon Hae-hyo) brings his daughter, who plans to study interior design, to see his longtime designer friend Ms Kim (Lee Hye-young). After talks and drinks, Ms Kim gives them a tour of her four-storeyed apartment building, going room by room, floor by floor. The journey is ordinary yet extraordinary, as the different levels of the building point to various phases of life for Byung-soo. Hong Sang-soo again uses repeating scenarios and spaces, as well as the gentle revelations of chatter, to meditate on life’s questions and longings.
