Event Recap: "Hand Rolled Cigarette" Cine-Concert

Hong Kong's first cine-concert for a Hong Kong movie was successfully held! We are grateful to Hand Rolled Cigarettes music team members, iii and Hanz Au, together with percussionist Karen Yu and trumpeter Atlas Iu, for putting together this hard to achieve cine-concert, and for re-arranging the movie for the show.

The performance not only brought live sensation to the audience, but also added improvisation elements to each concert, so that each concert was refreshingly new and irreplaceable. For those of you who came to see the show, thank you for joining us for this historic performance!

At the beginning of the post-screening chat, the band members said that it was indeed very tiring! Karen, the percussionist of Hand Rolled Cigarette, noted that she had to play the drums a lot harder because the soundtrack has more layers and there are exciting fight scenes. The timeliness of the performance was a big challenge, not only did they have to create a sense of live performance, they also had to keep the audience's attention to the plot. Trumpeter Atlas was the soul of the music performance, as a programmer, he also had the important task of monitoring the timeliness of the performance. iii and Hanz mentioned that when they created the soundtrack, they made use of computer program to create the sounds of different instruments, but for the live performance, they had to select new instruments suitable for live performance, and even had to play different kinds of music instrument themselves. In addition, the limitations of the theater space, such as sound-absorbing issue, resulting in extra factors to put into consideration.

Finally, when they started their performance, they laughed that it was the first time they looked at the audience from the perspective of a movie, and that the audience's eyes were full of glitter. They said that cinema has the power to bring happiness to people, and hoped that the audience would continue to support Hong Kong movies.

Last but not least, we would also like to thank Zenegeist, hkmoviedialogue, Young Master Brewery and Lay's for making it possible for the audience to further enjoy Hong Kong films!
