Someone Like Me had its Hong Kong premiere at HKAFF. Director and scriptwriter Tam Wai Ching and actor Fish Liew, Carlos Chan attended the screenings to greet the audience.

Tam shared that she once met a "Hand Angel" volunteer in Taiwan. The volunteer shared that he had once bathed a disabled person who was around 40 year-old, and she asked him about the location of her vagina. Tam was shocked that an adult could be so unfamiliar with one's own body, and lamented the insufficient education society provides.

The director admitted that she was not good at dealing with social issues, but the sharing of the volunteer deeply moved her and prompted her to write it into a script. Nonetheless, securing investors and casting were not as smooth as planned, costing her two to three years. By then, she finally realised the difficulty to portray a patient with cerebral palsy. Therefore, she was very grateful to have Fish as Mui. Tam shared that initially, she found the cheerful character and muscular body of Carlos unaligned with the image of Ken. Yet his performance exceeded all expectations.

Fish got the chance to communicate with other cerebral palsy patient when she was preparing for the role, allowing her to observe their breathing pattern and body condition. She believes the most challenging aspect of portraying the character lies in the voice, as the patient's vocal tone is affected by muscle tension, tongue stiffness and breathlessness. Tam added that when the patients are relaxed, their body relax as well. For instance, when Mui feels the affection of Ken, relaxingly portray the character would be more authentic. Carlos revealed that when he was offered the role, he was indeed in an extremely terrible physical and mental condition. He was wrestling with eye illness and insomnia, and was uncertain about his future, losing faith in himself. Fortunately, director and producer Stanley Kwan encouraged him to embrace his own dark side and different facades as an actor, empowering him.

At last, Tam hoped audience could put aside their expectations and perceptions as they watch the film, and purely immerse themselves in the love story between Ken and Mui.
