It’s New Year’s Eve, and amidst the frantic preparations to celebrate the countdown, manager Shindo and his crew of the Avanti Hotel must also attend to a series of misadventures brought to the scene by their distinguished guests — a group of moose researchers who are organising an awards ceremony, a scandalous politician hiding from the media, a suicidal veteran enka singer, the mistress of Shindo’s ex-wife’s current husband, and even a pet duck on the loose. How will they survive the night? Renowned dramatist Koki Mitani led a star-studded ensemble cast to tell the story of complex human relationships unravelled through absurdity, with Koji Yakusho delivering another exemplar of portraying Mr. Nobody with his “selfless” performance.
