Retired Georgian teacher Lia embarks on a search for her long-lost niece Tekla, who is transgendered and now lives in Istanbul. Joined by a young villager who claims to know Tekla, Lia wanders the poor neighbourhoods of the big city with next to no clue. Eventually their journey overlaps with the story of Evrim, a lawyer fighting for trans rights. In the follow-up to his breakthrough film And Then We Danced, Levan Akin embraces the odd-couple road movie formula to craft a tender, compassionate and unglamorous portrait of not just Turkey's ostracized trans community, but also of the sprawling metropolis that is Istanbul.
